AirLearn’s principal, Dr. Rob Britton, has been in and near the airline and travel industries since 1969. In 2009, he completed a 22-year career with American Airlines, working all across the enterprise. Before that, he held field and staff positions with the former Republic Airlines and Northwest, and with travel agencies and tour operators.

 

At American from 2007 to 2009, he served as Adviser to the Chairman.  From September 2001 through 2006, he was Managing Director, Brand Development and Advertising, initially as part of the team that rebuilt the AA brand after the 9/11 attacks.  He helped mitigate many other crises, including strikes and accidents.  Prior to 2001, Rob held leadership positions in international planning, corporate communications, passenger sales, I.T., and operations.

 

He earned a Ph.D. in economic geography from the University of Minnesota, and completed postdoctoral management training at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Prior to entering the airline industry, Rob was a geography lecturer at Minnesota and at the University of New England, Australia.

 

In addition to AirLearn, he is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, a senior advisor at the Eno Center for Transportation, a nonpartisan think-tank, and an annual guest lecturer at 25 business schools worldwide, including Kellogg, Wharton, and London Business School.  

 

He lives in suburban Washington, D.C., with his wife Linda, an attorney, and has two adult children and two granddaughters.
